SYRIA - Formalities of Powers of Attorney Simplified
DAMASCUS - The Syrian Trademark Office has recently issued regulations stating that each application – including single-class applications of the same trademark - should be supported with a separate notarized Power of Attorney, a press release by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) stated.
In case of a trademark application in a single class or a national patent application, one notarized Power of Attorney would be sufficient.
In order to facilitate and simplify this procedure, it may be recommended to submit a Power of Attorney notarized and legalized up to the Syrian Consulate.
By doing so, it will be possible to deposit this document at a Notary Public in Damascus, and extract a certified copy thereof locally each time instructions to attend to new applications in Syria wil be received. Consequently, it will no longer be necessary to send new Powers of Attorney for any future applications.
