Colombia: online trademark filing
On October 3, 2007, the Colombian Trademark Office announced that it was implementing a new system that allows online filing of trademark applications and trademark-related proceedings.
Users can file the following applications via the Internet:
- registration of trademarks
- registration of trade names
- registration of slogans
- recording changes of name, owner, domicile, etc.
- renewal
- recording user licenses
Ex Parte proceedings are also concerned:
- Opposition filings
- Responses to oppositions
- Cancellation actions
Please however note that requests for legal remedies cannot be submitted via the Internet, since they must be duly notarized prior to filing.
Official fees can be paid electronically by choosing from a list of banks. All documents required as part of a filing can be filed as attachments, preferably in JPG format. However, documents that must be filed in original form (e.g., powers of attorney, assignments) must then be physically filed with the Trademark Office.
